Pregnant & turning 30 in Aruba?

Good evening,

There is a high possibility of me going to Aruba for my 30th birthday. I will be turning 30 on July 16th. I am also expecting and will be in my 2nd trimester by then. Is Zika a major issue in Aruba? I've been told it is a very dry island & not as humid as other islands...I will talk to my OB about it as well to see what she recommends as well.

I had another question: I am really interested in doing day trips to Bonaire/Curacao, I've heard that the flights are only 30 mins & leave daily. Is that recommended? Or should we just stay in Aruba? Thoughts? Opinions?

My husband and I are calm, low-key travelers: interested in swimming at the beach, walking/sightseeing, & eating/maybe 1 excursion out of the entire trip.

Rely on your doctor for this information and the updates from health agencies. I personally would never travel to any area where Zika is a risk if I was expecting, or planning on getting pregnant. To me, no vacation is worth that risk.

Congrats on the pregnancy.

I love Aruba but there’s no way I’d risk my baby’s health for a week of vacation. Doesn’t really matter what anyone’s OB says.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!!!

Do not risk your pregnancy. Vacation can always wait! Doesnt matter what your OB says.

Also in this scenario's do not rely on anybody's opinon esp at TA fellows. My situation is different from your's. I believe decisions like this has to be discuss with your husband or even comes to you not with other people.

What everyone else said. Many people report that they’ve never been bitten. It is windy and the hotel area has less of an issue with mosquitoes, but it can depend where you are. I personally wouldn’t risk it either.

I was going to say pretty much what Jayd said. I’ve never been bitten once in Aruba, but others have. Zika is still posted as a warning for Aruba so I doubt your ob dr would be ok with this. If one of my kids asked my opinion, it wouldn’t even be a close call. Go somewhere else.

How about celebrating your birthday in Kauai. 🎉🎉

Of course check with your Dr. Don't buy your tickets yet, please.

Bermuda is Zika free.

We were there a month ago and there were quite a few pregnant women enjoying their vacations..
