toddler car seats in taxis?

Hi all,

Planning to travel to Bermuda with an almost 3 year old this summer. I know one cannot rent a car and so we plan to use buses, but it we used a taxi or had our rental unit landlord pick us up/drive to airport should we bring our own car seat? Ride from airport will be to Hamilton area. Not sure what the laws, etc. are or what tourists in this situation do.

Thanks for any feedback/info.

Child safety seats for children are NOT required by law in Bermuda aboard PUBLIC CONVEYANCES--buses, ferries, shuttles, taxis.

BUT....if the landlord of your private rental accommodation were to drive you in his own PRIVATE (personal) vehicle...a child safety seat would be required by law.

You may roll children's' strollers aboard BLUE and ORANGE route public ferries. You may carry strollers aboard PINK and GREEN route public ferries. You may carry folding strollers aboard public buses. So...a lightweight, folding stroller will be almost an absolute necessity. Taxis will carry folding strollers at NO additional charge. In more developed area like downtown Hamilton, Saint George's, Royal Naval Dockyard complex, there will be ample sidewalks and curbing cuts. Outside of developed areas, sidewalks, curbing cuts, etc. is catch-as-catch-can.

Whether you bring your own child safety seat--or not--is a personal decision.

Hello Finnishspinster,

You are not required to use a car seat while using public transportation or in a taxi in Bermuda, however if your landlord's vehicle is privately owned it will require a seat. If the landlord does not have one readily available we would suggest bringing your own. Here is some more information regarding seatbelt safety requirements for children in Bermuda: www.gov.bm/seatbelt-safety-and-requirements
