Understanding Taxi Fares

2 cruise ship pax will be in Curacao for the day 8:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Really want to spend the day at Playa Cas Abou beach. Are the posted taxi rates per taxi or per person up to 4 pax? So if the posted rate was $60.00, is that per taxi one way or per person one way with a surcharge if you dont have the required 4 pax?? A little confusing to me. Any thoughts??

With a full 12hr day on island I’d seriously recommend renting a car. Even if you just go to Cas Abou it’d be far cheaper than round-trip taxi fare.

But, beyond cost, with a car you could hit another beach or two and see some more of the island.

PS - Taxi rates are for up to four passengers.

So the posted taxi rates are per taxi one way? Why are some taxi drivers charging per person rates and if you dont have 4 pax they charge per hour rates??

Nuanced answer = “yes, but.” Unlike some Caribbean islands, there are no “posted” or “official” taxi rates for Curacao. Some companies do list their rates, but ultimately taxis can charge what they want. So be sure to settle on an agreed price before getting in a taxi.

There’s “typical” fares, which are point-to-point, and are customarily for up to four people, with extra people and excess luggage incurring a surcharge.

If you want a taxi driver to be your driver for the day, or portion thereof, then they will charge you a per-hour rate.

Never seen/heard of a Curacao taxi charge differently for less than 4 people for a point-to-point trip. but perhaps it works out cheaper for two people to “pay by the hour” rather than charge the customary “up to four pax” rate?

Certainly the going hourly rate (high of around $50/hr) will be cheaper than the typical flat-rate of $60-$80 for four pax from Willemstad to points west.
