my husband forgot his so bvi is off the table...any other intersting cays to explore that dont require private charter?

You could rent a dinghy from Noah's Little Ark and wander along the shore finding little coves inaccessible by land:

Kekoa, Cloud 9, and others offer full and half day snorkel charters with stops on the outer cayes and islands around St John so no passport needed!

You can also rent kayaks at Cinnamon and go out ti whistling cay to check out guard house ruin and snorkel, conditions permitting.

You can rent a kayak out of Honeymoon or Cinnamon ... or take a guided tour [ VI Ecoutours ] of Henley Cay [ just off Caneel ]. You could rent a kayak [ Crabby's ] or day charter [ Sail Pepper, Kiote Sails ] out of Coral Bay and see Hurricane Hole and the East End. As mentioned, the day charters will take you along St John's coastline for snorkeling and a day of discovering St John.
