Scooter Hire - Ao Nang

Hi, does anyone know of a reputable scooter hire firm in the Ao Nang area? We are staying at the Nakamanda resort and spa in February which is approx 15 minutes or so from Ao Nang and we would like to go into Ao Nang on the evening for meals/drinks/massage etc and also have a bit of freedom to sight see etc.

Also, any good recommendations for food/massage etc?

Many thanks

Hi. We are in Ao Nang now, and I can share some advice. For scooter rental, be extremely cautious of scams. There is a common scam with jet skis here, where upon return, some temporary paint wears off after a little use and upon return the vendor gets angry and charges hefty repair fees. Maybe the same with scooters, since the jet ski thing is now pretty well known. Also be cautious of tuk Tuks which say a fee, then stop along the way and demand 4x the fee to continue to your destination...especially late at night. For massage, they are in copious supply here...200 baht for 1 hr Thai massage, 300 for oil or specialty massage. Along the beach there are 30+ huts each with 20 places or more. Along the main road there are also places every few meters. For food, no specific recommendations. Generally street food is authentic and amazingly delicious, although ambience is lacking. Restaurants can be higher priced, but not always. Again, copious opportunities to eat well. Enjoy your trip!

I was just going to say the same thing Andessen, we have been going to Ao Nang at least 3 times each year for many years & have never seen jet skis, well there was not any as of October this year. Be a shame if they have them now, also never had a problem with tuk tuks:)

Watch out for the company NIT scooter rentals. We rented from our hotel who used this company. The Scooter was given to us with less than half a tank of gas and we were expected to return it full.

And then when we returned the scooter early they charged us for damaged that was already on the bike. Due to broken English and our hotel manager telling us to just pay the amount because most companies would charge a lot more than what we were asked, we reluctantly paid.

Long story short triple check your bike before (which we did) and use another company because this company is dishonest.

After we paid them to get our passport back both employees walked away laughing. Needless to say I know I got scammed and would never recommend this company. Find anther one for sure.

Leave Passport = Get Scammed, fairly straight forward process.

Thank you for the info Jack L. However, many of my guests have rented from NIT without problem. May I know which hotel rented the scooters for you?

Be very careful of these motorbike rental companies that want your passport or 30,000 Baht deposit. Just as previous poster indicated, it is almost a sure thing you are going to be ripped off. In Patong you can rent a motorbike with only a 1,000 Baht deposit and no passport.

Be very careful of Ao-Nang motorbike rental across from and slightly down hill from Starbucks. It is right next to Police Station. The owner there is very dangerous and reputed to be part of mafia. We saw him physically attack a middle aged farang today and call him all kinds of racial slurs. The farang had his hands outstretched from his side to show he did not want trouble and the owner of the rental shop physically attacked him.

It was a very frightening experience.
