Does anyone know what boogie boards cost in puerto vallarta?
I have seen them at Sam's, WalMart and Mega. They range anywhere from 200 to 350 pesos.
Thanks,
We just got back from staying at Rancho Banderas north of Puerto Vallarta and we had to pay for a broken board. $125US!!! What a rip-off.
aren't boogie boards basically styrofoam
My husband and I purchased very good quality boogie boards in Hawaii. The are made with layers of different foams, a stringer, and different coatinga that promote slip. $125.00 US is about right. To get them home, we hade to purchase carriers as well. I think that was $145.00
I doubt we will ever use them again. They are kinda cool. If you're not turning pro or like me live no where near a wave, buy a cheap one at Wal-mart and give it away when you leave. It's also not as easy as it looks.
Ours are yellow. Later we discovered this was also called Yum yum yellow because it's the favorite colour of sharks. It was fun while it lasted and out butts were so burnt I thought they were just cinders.
I doubt that the ones they give out for use at hotels are the high quality ones....and buying something in Hawaii is much different then buying it in Mexico. The ones we saw for approx $25 also had the stringer. Its like losing a beach towel, there is no way those cost to replace what they charge. Its a rip off anyway you look at it.
I would not call it a "rip off" rather enterprise, business, supply and demand. No one is FORCED to buy a boogie board -lol!
-suze
The rip off is having to pay $125 to the resort for a broken board that they can replace for $25.
If your board had a stringer, is was indeed expensive.
These are carbon or graphite rods to strengthen the board, reduce deformation, add stiffness and recoil to the core, giving greater speed from bottom turns.
Maybe you mean a leash? In any case, I still recommend buying a cheapie and leaving it behind. It's cheaper than renting and you're not likely to get good enough to need greater speed for your bottom turns. I'd almost plan a trip to Sayulita to justify the money my husband payed for these. We had fun, but we never did ride a tube.
Sorry, I guess I'm not following the story. A resort charged you $125 to replace a $25 board that you broke?
Yes, basically. The board was well used and we volunteered to replace it from the same store as where the hotel bought them but they refused. I went to the store in PV and found out they cost $30US.
