Gates at entrance to El Cedral

FYI- if you planned to stop into El Cedral for.....well.....anything, be aware they now have gates and are charging admission JUST to get into the town. We were quoted $3.00 per person by the “guard”, but were told later it should have been $2.

Didn’t really matter as we turned our car of 5 people around and didn’t spend a single peso there.

Went back to the cold coconut hut instead. Then stopped there again the next day. Ice cold Loster beers for a buck. Got souvenirs too.

The gate has been up for the past two years. and It is a complete rip off.

The charge should be 2 bucks to enter (which is still a rip) for the whole car.

It is really close to where I live, and no way am I going to pay to enter.

I only went to El Cedral once, when I first started going to the island many years ago.

A lot of people will probably disagree, but for me it was a huge disappointment. I've never gone back. Others I know have gone and feel the same.

I haven’t been to El Cedral, but am looking into visiting Kun Che park which is close by. Does anyone know if this fee affects those who are trying to access the Kun Che Park? Thanks!

I no longer even go back there for the Cedral festival.

The only thing worth it to me to go there is Kun Che Park

I had no idea what the actual fee was to enter. Does sound a bit steep. I go often with my friends Because they have a house in Cedral and we often spend weekends there. But they don't pay to enter.

Locals do not pay, tourists pay. You speak Spanish, then you might not pay either....Buenvenidos!

In May of 2017, we drove thru with our Amigos Mal_Perro and Margarita Snorkels. No gates or fees. I am underwhelmed by it all, other than so this is a regular Mexican neighborhood? No way I'd pay to drive thru it. I saw the Mayan ruins in the middle of town years ago, yup, done that.

We had seen the ruins between two blinks once too. We had wanted to go spend some money there. Not a lot....but more than we ended up spending there for sure. Still didn’t lose a wink of sleep over it.

FWIW I messaged Kun Che over on Facebook, asked about the gate charge.

"With a reservation we pay the gate charge".

I would never go to Cedral just to see the ruin. As said, I just go for a nice weekend visit in my friends house there on the weekend. And the Cedral fair is still one of my favorite island experiences every year.
