Casual bar to have drinks - for 40 to 50 age group

Going to Banff for 4 days - have all the must spots to hit. Looked up bars and nightlife but can't seem to find what I am looking for. Casual Bar to have drinks and socialize - we are in our 40's and 50's Small local spot?

There's many great places to have a drink and a meal in Banff. The Balkan Restaurant has a small, but lovely lounge right on Banff Avenue and great Greek food. Greek nights on Tuesday and Thursday are lively and fun! The Elk and Oarsman Pub and the St. James Gate are two of the more popular pubs in town, both have great service and awesome food. Good value for the dollar. For something slightly more upscale the lounges at the Maple Leaf or the Bison Bistro are lovely - and the food gourmet. Wines by the glass and plenty of ambience. On a warm day or evening, the patio at the Bison is one of Banff's best. New on the scene is the Banff Avenue Brewing Company - a brew pub on Banff Avenue. Enjoy yourself!

For just having drinks and socializing, as you mention, I would recommend the Bison -- a great range of wines and a very pleasant atmosphere.

Lots of good recommendations already, two other good options would be the Keg Steakhouse & Bar on Banff Ave. or the Saltlik on Bear St.

Some places you might enjoy:

Bison - they have an upstairs lounge and a downstairs lounge - both are great. Also there's a nice rooftop patio upstairs that can't be beat during a sunny afternoon for a pitcher of Sangria. Great food/appies at Bison!

Saltlik - nice, comfortable and casual atmosphere

Magpie & Stump - a bit more casual than the first two -quite fun. A Mexican restaurant that gravitates toward a place to go drinking as the night goes on.

St. James Gate - fun Irish pub

I would also go to the Elk and Orsman. And I do recommend a drink at the Rundle Lounge at the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel....amazing views!
