Marriott Parq or Pinnacle, may be traveling solo

Single female traveling to Vancouver in December. Some other girl friends may come with me. Question- which hotel would be the safest to stay at? Parq or Pinnacle? I see the Pinnacle is on Hastings and have read about part of Hastings being a bad area to walk in. I may or may not rent a car. So walking and local public transport will be the likely mode of transport. Will be going to the Christmas market, Grouse, Granville, and other areas that are having Christmas festivities. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,

W Hasting in Coal Habour (one of the most, if not the most expensive neighourhood) is nothing like E Hasting in Downtown Eastside. Pinnacle is fine and safe. It is close to Stanley Park and Waterfront. Parq is newer. It is closer to Yaletown, Robson street, false creek. You can even walk to Olympic Village.

If the price is about the same. I would choose Parqb because it is newer. Both are fine.

The Pinnacle is in a good part of town. It's one block from the #19 bus to Stanley Park or Gastown (the opposite direction), a few blocks from Burrard Station for the skytrain. And a couple more blocks to the Vancouver City Centre Canada Line station to the airport.

The part of Hastings St you would feel pretty uncomfortable is Hastings between Abbott and Gore, east of Gastown, but easy to unwittingly slip into from Gastown.

I am not at all impressed with the location of the Parq. It's not a bad area, just a concrete maze right there. It is lifeless, IMO.

Thanks to u both for ur quick replies! Price/points about the same. And the Pinnacle is very near the Christmas market. I am leaning more towards it. Just heard their concierge lounge isn’t as good as the Parq, but with all the food options in the city, not that concerned with freebies.

Parq is only 30 second walk from the seawall and 5 min walk from Cambie Bridge which offers a spectacular view from the deck. I can understand what poster 2 is saying. There are constructions. It is packed and tight. But there is more foot traffic and more energy especially in the evening.

I jog in the area everyday and I am liking it more than I used to.

I like Pinnacle too. I just booked a room for my uncles.

Stayed in the pinnacle in April. Nice location. Close to waterfront station which is handy for getting around. Staff were lovely. Bar has beautiful view in between other buildings. Our room was horrible and very expensive. As it was only a short overnight stay we didn't ask to be moved but if I was staying longer I would.

Gave feedback to hotel and got a lovely reply from a manager. So I would stay again.

Depending on how long you are staying, I now know I prefer a room with sitting area and kitchenette area. So much more freedom to do as you please.

Parq is a casino hotel with a casino below and a stadium and hockey rink next door. It's a little sterile for my tastes, but certainly lively on event nights. Pinnacle is more central, but is in a quiet (dead?) zone. Either is quite OK. The distance between the two is about 20 minutes by foot. Pinnacle is a wee bit better for a walk-about.

Thanks again everyone! The more I am thinking about it, the Pinnacle will be the likely choice. Ur feedbacks have been very helpful!!

I just toured the Parc, and it's very nice. Great deck area, but in winter I don't think that's important. I think the Parc is more central, it's walking distance to Olympic Village, False Creek north and south. Close to the Aquabus to Granville Island and Stanley Park.
