Golf in Vancouver area

We'll be in Vancouver about 5 days next month. In addition to all the sightseeing, we'd like to get a few rounds of golf in. We'll have a car (and our clubs). Any recommendations for scenic courses in the area (within an hour of Vancouver) without spending a ton of money on greens fees?

I'm not a golfer, but Furry Creek is in a spectacular location.

I would suggest UBC or Northlands in North Vancouver. Excellent contrast to the desert links you're likely used to. Northland's is fairly steep, part of the fun.Remember to allow for the exchange rate when pricing courses.

There's Westwood Plateau. There's also the Shaugnessy golf course but not sure if it's private only.

I forgot to mention, if you like the look of UBC, you might want to book a tee time ahead...very popular for good reason. Even twilight is busy.

Okay, for once a subject where I do have some expertise! UBC is a great suggestion and reasonable in price but you need to book in advance as they do a lot of tournaments. Of the 3 City of Vancouver courses, the best is Fraserview which has both a good layout and pretty scenery. McCleery is a bit less challenging and Langara is for beginners. Just across the border in Burnaby is Rivershore if you are a fan of links type golf. Other courses locally which are public and very enjoyable are Mayfair Lakes in Richmond, the aforementioned Northlands in North Vancouver, and Northview in Surrey (2 courses, Ridge and Canal--do the Ridge course). Furry Creek is stunning in its design and for the views but it is what you expect for a course built on the side of a mountain..take that into account and it is enjoyable.

Some others to look at-- Redwoods in Langley, Swaneset in Pitt Meadows, and Semiahmoo back across the border just outside of Blaine WA. You said an hour outside Vancouver so I have left the Whistler courses off the list but they are all spectacular (Whistler GC, Nicklaus North, Chateau Whistler, and Big Sky in Pemberton); Squamish Valey CC is said to be very scenic and enjoyable.

I have played all of these except Semiahmoo and Squamish and they are good courses for reasonable prices. Book as soon as you decide what you like the looks of.

(Shaughnessy is private and not open to the public).

The front page of Furry Creek's website describes it as "British Columbia's Most Scenic Golf Course".

I'd avoid Furry Creek if you are serious about playing.

There isn't a level lie in the whole place.

Well....maybe in the dining room.
