Northern Vancouver Island with a 6 year old

Hi folks. Just looking for a bit of inspiration! We will be heading to the island in an RV early next month. We are thinking of going in and out of Nanaimo and missing out Victoria and the south totally (we've been there twice before, but never been further north than Comox). Is it worth going right up to Port McNeill and Port Hardy? Or would we be better staying in the Campbell River, Strathcona area? Will need things en route to keep our 6 year old entertained! Thanks!

Yes, definitely! It's gorgeous. Our kids were a little older when we went, but we camped at Telegraph Cove (little buggy but lovely for a privately run campground. I'll post the link later when Im not on my iPad). We did a whale watching trip with Stubbs, walked the boardwalk at TC and went to the Whale Centre, toured the little civic museum in Port McNeil, walked on to the ferry over to Alert Bay and walked down to the U'mista Cultural Centre. Kept us busy for a couple of days.

Ferries are costly, especially with an RV, but a few days on the beach at Tribune Bay would be fabulous.

and what Alert Bay looks like https:/…72157653240759201 and best to just do a walk on as the attraction are a short distance to the ferry terminal.

and a stop at the Cable Cookhouse on the road to Sayward is a good leg stretch mid way from Campbell River to Port McNeill.

Allow for 3 nights at north Island.

Stock advice these days. You will now need an eTA to be able to board your plane to Canada.
