We are driving from bar harbor Maine - 2 days there

Then 2 days at bay of fundy on New Brunswick side

Driving to Halifax for 3 nights 2 days

Could stay another day before driving back to Maine

Thought I could stay in Digby/ Annapolis area or head to Cape Breton

Planning to travel last week of September

you could take the ferry from Saint John to Digby then cut across to Lunenberg area to make your way to Halifax. Cape Breton really needs at least 2 nights to make it worth while. You could do Hopewell Rock on your way back. An extra day could be going to PEI via Caribou NS to Wood Island ferry then across to take the Confederation Bridge to get to Hopewell Rock.

ps google maps does not work for the ferry to PEI in the winter months as they use live data.

As was noted, you would not have enough time to visit Cape Breton. Annapolis Royal is a lovely small historic town with some beautiful gardens.

Taking your extra day, I'd suggest driving through the Annapolis Valley, perhaps stopping at the Grand Pre/Wolfville area for lunch. Great time of year to visit with all the fresh harvest & vineyards.

Then continue on to Annapolis Royal for the night. It's only aprox 15 min drive from there to the Digby ferry.

Bar Harbour is a lovely place; I had the opportunity to spend a couple of summers there some years back.

1 day is not enough time to visit Cape Breton. If you only have 1 day after Halifax then I suggest the Annapolis Valley. The Grand Pre National Historic Site is certainly worth a visit.
