Best Lobster Restaurant and attractions

We will be in Sydney NS in August and are looking for the best Lobster restaurant - we are planning to rent a Car and drive around the area - specifically the Cabot Trail (partial only due to cruise ship schedule). Any suggestions for the Lobster and attractions to see will be very much appreciated.

The lobster pound in North Sydney gets great reviews. https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review…

However, going to North Sydney for lunch does not fit with your partial Cabot Trail plans. If you want lunch while on the Cabot Trail check out Ingonish. You may have to be flexible as the cruise ship tours take their passengers there. And if you do have lunch there you will not have time to see one of the prettier sections of the trail between Ingonish and Neil's Harbour.

August is not lobster season in Cape Breton and you may want to skip it in order to drive a bit further on the Cabot Trail. Try to get to Neil's Harbour before you head back but do leave extra time to get back.

Here is a map: https://goo.gl/maps/oBeaJMAgjDA2

To be conservative it is a five hour drive. You will want half an hour or more to pick up the car and at least an hour to return it and get to the ship.

How long are you in port?

It is very frustrating that most of the cruise ship lines do not allow enough time in Sydney.

This map shows the lobster fishing seasons: tastelobster.ca/images/fishing_regions.pdf

You will note the earliest date anywhere in Cape Breton is April 30 and the latest is July 20. Outside of those dates some restaurants or areas have lobster pounds where they keep live lobster.

I never go to Cape Breton without having a meal at The Black Spoon in North Sydney. They serve a Lobster Pot Pie which is unbelievable! Huge chunks of lobster & the creamiest of sauces! If my B&B guests are heading for the ferry to Newfoundland, I always recommend The Black Spoon & often hear back from very pleased guests re the recommendation for the Lobster Pot Pie.

The Lobster Pound in North Sydney is awesome. When you do the Cabot trail make sure you go to Neil's Harbour and have lunch at the Chowder House. It is right on the cliffs next to the lighthouse. awesome place!
