Snow on the ground in Montreal

Hello all!

I'm planning a trip to NY and would like to add Montreal for a few days.

I've never seen snow so I want to see it even it isn't so much on the ground, however I also want to go walking/sightseeing.

Is a mid-March or beginning-April visit ok for walking/sightseeing and still see snow on the ground in Montreal?

No, April is too late. At most there may still be ice on the rivers and lakes.

Mid March depends on the year. You would have more luck in Quebec city. Montreal normally gets the last big snowstorm first week of March. But it can vary. And if it melts by the time you get here depends how much snow we got all year.

In mid-March, there is usually snow on the ground in Montreal (at least there has been the last 10 years). In April, it depends on the year. The last two, we've had significant snowfall in mid-April, but some years it is mostly gone by then.

I'd recommend mid March, you'll catch snow there. The old port is incredible when it's covered with snow. It's also a nice way to see it because it wont be as cold as january and february.

I also recommend March to be sure to see snow and I would also recommend old Montreal, however, if you have the time, get out of the city, the snow will be nicer !

Yes, March is a good time to visit Montreal. There will be snow and the weather will be less cold than in February.
