Tourist restriction measures

Hi

Heard the story about Venice is putting in measures to restrict tourists numbers. How does this work?

We are planning to travel northern Italy by train, and would like to spend a few days in Venice, how is this going to affect our plan?

Would there be a difference to stay outside of Venice, and take local transports into the city each day?

cheers

1. Re: Tourist restriction measures

There were some temporary measures put in place for the May Day holiday period. These will not affect you.

If you want to visit Venice, then stay in Venice.

It would be best to stay in Venice.

They stopped mainly day visitors and people arriving by car. It was mostly ill advised, and only caused trouble for peolpe who ended up having to line up and go through turnstiles. As many local papers noted, it would be more efficient to stop people before they arrive in Venice, rather than causing bottlenecks at the city entrances.

The mayor of Venice is not the brightest individual. He is selling out the city to investors, allowing controversial construction in the city, doing nothing to stop the cruise ships which are reportedly causing harmful vibrations to the foundations of the buildings, and at the same time putting up this farce to limit tourists, when in reality stopping the cruise ships would be a lot more effective.

IMHO

Actually very few people were stopped. Once the car parks are full people get turned away normally. This was a story that made the headlines but was actually pretty much nothing....
