I dont know about the dress code in the hotel but smart shorts and t shirts are fine in any of the tavernas in town and the 'resorts'

Linen shirts and linen trousers are what I personally wear to dinner.

I do like to make an effort when going out in the evening, despite Thomson's measly baggage allowance!

Had similar conversations on the Benidorm forum, and yes, I do go there once a year on a works outing, but always make an effort and dress for dinner.

I usually wear a linen jacket too, but draw the line at a tie, because I'm on holiday! ☺

Bow tie, cotton socks, something lacy. A nice big hat with a flag of St. George sticking out of the top. Bloomers and a red, red rose in my buttonhole. A Steely Dan t-shirt.

I also would agree with the self catering aspect. Much better to go for a wander, in my trousers! ☺

My advice, if you're comfortable you're dressed correctly ,

You are on holiday
