Myself and my partner are moving to Auckland in August on a 12 month working holiday visa. We are both teachers (Drama and primary) and are hoping to relief teach whilst we are in NZ. We would like to live in a 1 bed furnished apartment preferably with some sort of 'water' to look at - preferably the main harbour. Our max budget is about $400p/w.
I have a few questions that I have tried to research myself but am struggling to find answers to:
1. Would you suggest living in a hostel / Airbnb for a month whilst looking for a longer term let? Is the move-in turnaround quicker than this?
2. Is it feasable to live in "central" Auckland and to then commute regularly to schools as part of an agency? Or would we be better living in a specific neighbourhood and looking for repeat work at the same schools?
3. I have tried trademe but as of yet I am not really seeing the kind of results I'd like. Do you know of any lettings agents which deal specifically with harbour views, or is just out of our price range?
Many thanks for your help with these questions.
