Left luggage in Penzance

The tourist office are as much use as a chocolate teapot for this. Apparently a nearby gym MAY offer this service, but the person I spoke to didn't know the name of the gym so I can't phone to ask. A search for gyms shows nothing near the station although she told me it was. Can anyone help please? I'm astonished that any station with a night sleeper service does not offer this facility.

Yes, you would expect the tourist office to know, wouldnt you.

By the same token, google has thrown up a couple of options to investigate:

Premier Inn via Stasher https://stasher.com/luggage-storage/penzance

Rideon Ebikes https://rideonebikes.co.uk/luggage-storage-bike-storage/

the Longboat Inn https://www.longboatinn.co.uk/

I'm not. The Terrorism Threat Level in the UK has been Substantial (level 3) or greater ever since MI5 started using the designations in 2006. In the 1970s and 1980s railway stations were commonly a target for terrorism activity.

Security Screening left luggage is costly which is why only the largest stations have Left Luggage Facilities. I doubt it would be cost-effective in Penzance.

I’ve used the Longboat Inn a few times in previous years (and tend to grab a drink there before our train back home). The last time they initially said that they were full and the lady in the National Trust office phoned them for us and persuaded them that they weren’t.

I can’t remember whether Premier In. Had opened last year (but I do tend to leave my bags at their hotels in London via the Stasher app).

Alas the Longboat no longer stores luggage. Thanks for your response though.

Wow thanks so much for this. I've managed to book our cases in at the bike rental place, and have sent the details of both to the person we're renting from so she'll know in future too.

Very best wishes and thanks again.

Thanks for your response. I don't think it makes much sense because luggage gets stored somewhere, whether at a station or another storage place, so the threat is potentially there! I just feel that if a night sleeper service is offered, most passengers won't want to drag their cases around all day waiting for the evening until they can board the train. It's a matter of providing a suitable service for passengers.

Linden, I wonder how much you’d be prepared to pay for luggage storage at the station to make it cost effective for them?

A couple of things to remember:

Penzance is the end of the line but passengers on the sleeper get off at intermediate stations eg Truro, St Austell etc. should there also be luggage storage facilities st those stations too?

Those boarding at Penzance might be able to leave their luggage at their hotel until the evening of check out day.

Many passengers commute via the night sleeper so are heading home or to their second home and/or have little or no luggage. I’ve done that journey many many times and have no need of storage facilities.

Whilst stations were (and to a degree still are) seen as terrorist targets because attacks would have an immediate and long term impact on travel, off site luggage storage facilities are less likely to attract terrorist action because there’d be less widespread impact.
