We're staying at the Grosvenor at Victoria Station and would appreciate suggestions for some inexpensive, but good, nearby restaurants for breakfast and dinner.

La Tasca and Ha Ha have special deals on at the moment (basically one meal free for every adult meal bought - chcek their web sites for vouchers).

Breakfast...there are loads of cafe's coffee shops around the station area..but it does get very busy during weekdays.

Some of the inexpensive restaurants are Comfort Inn Vauxhall and Yo! Sushi near to Victoria Station. Yo Sushi keeps its prices under control & everyone now seems to be familiar with the wonders of the conveyer belt with its array of colour-coded plates priced from £1.70 (green) to £5 (grey).

I wouldn't go so far as to call it *good*, but the Chez Gerard at Victoria station is the most acceptable one of that chain that I've eaten in, and it's not terribly expensive.

Chez Gerard offers a reliable menu, often with a menu fixe,

Entrance either up steps next to Superdug on the station forecourt, or through the very discreet entrance to the Thistle hotel by the ticket sales counter.

We like to eat at The Shakespeare when we stay at the Gosovenor (it used to be the Victoria Thistle). It is across the street from the station. Good fish and chips, very good pies (shephard's, steak and ale, chicken and ham...) and tolerable scampi. There is an Italian place down the street and around the couner ... I think it is called the Spagetti House. Has good pasta and good entres other than pasta also.

Or you could try breakfasts at the Wetherspoons pub inside Victoria Station on the top floor from 10 a.m. to noon

A hot breakfast and a coffee should be less than £4.

If the Wetherspoons counts as good, then so does Chez Gerard. But I doubt it also counts as cheap in those circumstances.

A couple of dinner options within a five minute walk -

* Il Posto. Friendly Italian on Vauxhall Bridge Road opposite the Apollo theatre.

* Tiles & Bumbles. Two not dissimilar wine bar/restaurants almost next to each on Buckingham Palace Road. None are cheap cheap but all offer decent value and food food in a pleasant atmosphere.

Mango Tree is pretty good. You can often get 50% off deals on Top Table. I tried them out a few months ago and I wasnt disappointed.
