Getting to and from Ricoh

Hi

Never been to Coventry before. Just booked Killers for next June. We will need to stay overnight and may stay another night to see Coventry itself so planning on staying in city centre. I can see that we will be able to get either a train or bus to the stadium but reports appear to be of chaos at the end of the gig (which is normal for most large venues) and that they don't put extra trains on to clear the crowds. Just wondering how easy it is to walk back to the city centre - looking at maybe a Premier Inn appears to be just over an hour's walk back - is this a viable option? Will probably get train down from our our home town and not bother bringing the car.

NB already looked at Hilton and Novotel and both already booked up.

Walking back is quite feasible if you're fit. What I would do is to start walking back to the city centre along Lockhurst Lane or Longford Road/ Foleshill Road and keep an eye out for a local bus traveling back to the city and hop on if one comes along. Obviously it'll depend on what time you come out of the stadium as to how many buses come past but the services along those roads are usually quite frequent.

Thank you. We are fit enough to walk - I think i would do that than stand around waiting for a taxi for which there will be long queue - might as well be moving than standing still.

I probably wouldn’t walk. It’ll take longer than an hour, easily. Although walking towards the city centre wouldn’t be a bad start, I would look at ordering an Uber or taxi further down the line as the crowds die down. The areas to get to the city centre aren’t always the best. You could always stay behind in the casino and have a drink in there and then head back to the city centre after? If you’re dead cert on getting a train to Coventry then you’d need to stay in the city centre, that said options are limited but the Premier Inn at Belgrade Plaza should suffice or Premier Inn at the Butts which is a 10-15 minute walk from train station and 5 min walk from the city centre. If you drove and aren’t on too much of a budget there is a Hilton the next junction along from the Ricoh or The Old Mill pub and The Baginton Oak who offer rooms. Opposite side of the city but still only 10 minute drive from the city centre and they are nicer places to stay. Hope this helps. Any questions then fire away!

Strange that the owner of the camping site in the link above is called Keith, the same name as the person who posted the link.

Coincidence :-) ?

We are staying near Balsall Common are hoping to drive and park nearer to the Arena then walk. I have read that there is a 2k residents only parking restriction near the arena. Happy to walk 2k is there is somewhere safe to leave the car on route as likely to be quicker than queuing to get off a car park. Can anybody advise please?

Hope someone local and more uptodate can advise re

- extent of residents only parking

- crossing the multi-lane Phoenix Way

- best access to the Arena itself.

I've had sort-of useful experience as I've walked from where my parents lived near Keresley to the Ricoh Arena shopping centre , which must be just under 2 miles. This was a straightforward walk : Pennypark Lane, Parkgate (row of shops so not residents parking?) , Lythalls Lane, and an easy crossing over Phoenix Way.

However,

- this was about 12 years ago, there was no residents-only parking anywhere near my parents home, but there might be now ....

- I've never been to the Arena itself, so don't know if the Arena shopping centre is helpful for accessing events at the Arena, or a bit off-target and could waste your time ...

Something to build on or reject in the light of better info ....
