Baby Friendly Aviemore

We've booked a wee break in Aviemore at the end of October with our 1 year old baby staying at the Macdonald lodges. We're new to Aviemore and fairly new to travelling with a baby! Just wondering if there's any particular baby-friendly cafes, restaurants, places to visit etc anybody recommends in Aviemore and surrounding areas.

Thanks.

Although your wee one might not appreciate it yet :-) Landmark in Carrbridge makes an excellent family day out http://www.landmarkpark.co.uk/

Might baby( and you?) enjoy seeing Santa's reindeer at Glenmore on the way up to Cairngorm Mountain? Plenty of photo ops which could potentially adorn a Christmas Card for friends and family if you are into that sort of thing?

The Strathspey Steam Railway leaves from the far platform at Aviemore station. A steam train ride might be fun?

I agree with Goanjock, your baby is probably a wee bit young to appreciate these things but you can have happy photo memories from your holidays. It's a beautiful area. Don't miss a walk around Loch an Eilein which is suitable for a pushchair most , or all, of the way ( it's been a while since I walked it!)

Thanks for your suggestions woodybark and goanjock. Clever idea about a wee photo shoot with the reindeer! 😊

I was going to say Loch an Eilein too, if you've got a buggy with decent wheels (ideally 3!) you'll get round it.

We stayed in Carrbridge with our wee man in May who was 1 and a half at the time. We didn't eat in Aviemore often, but did go to the Bridge Inn and they were very good. They had high chairs and changing facilities and were happy to give us a small version of an adult meal as he couldn't eat anything from the children's menu.

I guess it depends how mobile your child is, but here's what we did:

Highland Wildlife Park

Funicular Railway

Steam Train (just went to see it arrive, didn't ride it)

Osprey Centre (probably no Osprey's in October though, but there's a nice loch walk there too)

Loch Morlich Beach

Landmark (he was a bit young for a lot of it, but really enjoyed the forest trails)

Walks round Carrbridge

Our chalets also had a swimming pool which I'm sure the McDonald in Aviemore does too. And there are some soft play places in the area if the weather is rubbish. We were lucky and didn't have to use these though.

There's loads of walks in the area. Not sure how many of them are buggy friendly, we used a baby carrier for walking.

We also managed to time nap time with a walk to the pub ;)

The Green Loch behind Glenmore Lodge is perfectly buggy friendly, a short walk there and back, but the scenery is wonderful and the Loch itself is beautiful.

Park at the barrier behind Glenmore Lodge ( leaving access clear obviously) You take the single track road to the right at The Reindeer Centre and drive along to the other end and park ( it's obvious) or you could park at the Reindeer Centre and walk along to give you a longer walk. I'm sure there is a tarmac track to get you off the single track road all the way along for cyclists and pedestrians
