Daughter visiting UCD March 10-16 Place to stay?

My daughter is planning to visit Dublin for the week after her term ends at Oxford. She wants to make a campus visit at UCD looking at it as potential grad school. She needs a place to stay that is inexpensive, clean & safe for a woman traveling alone. She will be using public transport while there so access to nearby train/bus would be great. Can anyone recommend a place, hostel, hotel, B&B?

Your help is much appreciated by this nervous Mom!

UCD Is located in a very middle-class suburban area of Dublin. The suburb of Donnybrook is located between the main entrance to UCD and the city centre, and is on a bus route. I'd try searching for a B & B in that area.

The timing is not the greatest, as it's in the lead-up to St Patrick's Weekend Festivities: 15th through 19th March 2018:

Not to mention, an international Six Nations Rugby Match between Ireland and England on Saturday 17th March 2018!

Accommodation in the Donnybrook/Ballsbridge area of Dublin will be at a premium.

Having said that, this B&B in the Donnybrook is offering a discount for 3 nights, so your daughter might get it extended and improved upon for a week's accommodation:

The Leap Visitor Card for the Greater Dublin area will cover all the public transport needs, including to and from Dublin Airport, for your daughter:

This includes Dublin Bus; the Dart; and the Luas.

I visit the UCD grounds at Belfield a few days per week. There is also another campus beside where I live in Blackrock called the UCD Business school or Smurfit College. Which campus will she be visiting? They are quite a distance apart.

Assuming she’s visiting the main campus, the most suitable transport is the bus route running along the N11 dual carriageway. (look for the buses that go into campus)

The Radisson hotel would be within walking distance and th Talbot hotel Stillorgan, a little further south, would also be convenient with the bus, only a couple of stops, otherwise she could stay closer to town.

However, as others have said, the dates chosen are in the run up to a bank holiday weekend and one of Ireland’s biggest festivals. So demand, and therefore prices, will be quite a bit higher than usual. If it’s still possible, would reconsider those dates.

There are no classes in UCD that week, perhaps there exists some mechanism to sublet a room in student accommodation there, although I don't know how this could be done.

As noted above, Postgrad Business courses are not on the main campus.

The student union's centre has a walk in area and can help your daughter regarding accommodation. It is located in the older part of the student centre beside the Clubhouse Bar. It would also be a good idea to stroll around inside the campus buildings because many locals who have rooms will place advertisements on the notice boards.

For her short stay I would also recommend the Talbot Hotel in Stillorgan. She can get the Aircoach from the airport and it stops outside the door. Across the road there are bus stops where she can get a bus to the campus or onwards in to the city centre. Incidentally she can safely walk from the hotel to the campus. My son did it for years when he was attending at UCD.

Another hotel that is as close to UCD but requires a walk through a nice suburban estate is the Tara Towers Hotel. Less than 10 minutes walk from this hotel is the DART station where your daughter could take day trips on the train along the coast or in to the city centre.
