Using taxis in Leamington Spa area for 3 nights in August

Is it easy to arrange taxis in the Leamington Spa area? Can you flag one or do you have to prebook? We are staying in Leamington Spa for three nights but want to go to Warwick Castle one day which is only 4 miles away. I have looked at the train and the bus schedules and it looks like we would still have to walk a mile to the actual castle after waiting around for transit, so I am thinking that a taxi would be more efficient (more costly too but there are four of us).

Question #2: Leamington Spa seems like a very nice place. Any favourite sights/restaurants etc?

Good local taxi service, best to phone for a pick-up.

Cost is between £1.00/1.50 per mile. Entrance to the castle is just past the centre of Warwick on the road to the racecourse.

I have attached a Leamington website that should give you info on places and food.

Have a look at the Lord Leycester Hospital (Not a Health Centre)the local museum and the antique shops if that is your thing

There are plenty of buses which will drop you off in Warwick town centre, and you will be able to walk to the castle from there in five minutes or so. Have a look at the Stagecoach Warwickshire website - I know routes 16 and 18 go between the two towns, but there are others too.

There is a pedestrian entrance to the castle by the roundabout on Castle Hill and another one where Castle Street joins Castle Lane, so you don't have to walk down to the Stratford Road entrance, which is for vehicles and is much further away.

Having said that, it may actually be cheaper to get a taxi if there are four of you, so best to check prices beforehand.

While you are in Leamington Spa, do have a look at the Jephson Gardens at the bottom end of The Parade which are a picture in the summer months. You can also have a taste of the spa water outside the Pump Rooms if you like. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the town - Corleone's on Regent Street is good for a light lunch, and I can also recommend Nicolini's at the top end of the Parade.

If you are visiting before the end of September 09, you can print out 2for1 castle tickets at www.visittheheart.co.uk.
