TGV best lines

Hi

I am traveling to France to try out TGV trains. Which lines are the best? Where does the train go fastest? What about the line between Paris and Geneva, is this good?

cheers

1. Re: TGV best lines

The best line is the one that goes from Paris to a destination you want to visit. You are not going to notice any small difference in top speed.

Trains from Paris to Geneva will run at the speed of ordinary trains for part of the journey, as there are sections of track that are not suitable for high speed. The longest continuous high speed run is Paris to Marseille or Montpellier.

Thanks for your answer. I have a question. Does the train from Paris to Geneva use the same line in some part of the journey as train from Paris to Lyon?

They use the same lines until the junction a bit north of Montbard. See https:/…france-rail-map-hi-res.htm

The train to Geneva leaves the high speed line just after Mâcon and goes via Bourg-en-Bresse then a very scenic line via Bellegarde. The fastest line is Paris to Strasbourg where the top speed is 320 kph.

The line between Paris and Maçon is, for the most part, the oldest of France's high-speed lines and isn't, therefore, the fastest. In particular, trains have to slow slightly as they crest rises in order to ensure that they don't take off.

Between Paris and Rennes, it's also at 320 KM/H since some months. Rennes is at 1H 26 from Paris.
