Planning around rail strike

We have an action packed trip to Europe (starting Paris) coming up later this week. Lodging, flights and all kinds of other details are already booked for our 10 day trip. We are traveling from Paris to Turin on an SNCF high speed train and recently learned that the strikes may affect our travel. Huge bummer as we were looking forward to a relaxing and restful train ride vs long drive or dealing with the airport.

It appears that SNCF will announce flight cancellations by 5pm the day before our train departs. Is there any way to have more advance notice on whether our route will run? We will fly if needed, but obviously better to have more than 18 hours notice!

Thanks for any suggestions.

My wife and I are presently in Europe and had some mixed outcomes through the strike. From our experience it is good to have a mobile so you can ring SNCF direct and exchange tickets, (although depending on how you booked, this can be done online) we found that you can make a dummy booking and if the train is able to be booked it is going to run. For us we are going from Turin to Paris to fly home on the 18/6, a strike day. Our train shows as full which means maybe, but there is a later train that could be booked. Also possibly expect the trains to be fuller. The media is reporting that the strike is running out of puff, not sure....All the best, we are waiting until 48 hours prior to make our choice, did notice more trains scheduled to run from Milan - it seeems fairly random.Hope it works out for your family.

If you check the SNCF website you will find updates about the strike. Currently, any train listed for sale between now and June 30 will be running.

Incredibly helpful - thanks all!

Our itinerary IS showing on the SNCF website... there's no option to book there, but it's showing. I assume that means we're good to go?

It was fully available to purchase from a booking website.

Aaron S - what do you mean by your "itinerary" is showing? Is your train available for booking on the oui.sncf website? What day are you traveling?

If so, then it will be running.

If not, then there's a chance it may be cancelled.

I would use SNCF as a reference - not a 3rd party booking website.

The info is clear on the SNCF website: https://www.oui.sncf/train/greve

Here's the translated version:

Until the end of June , all TGV trains (in France and in Europe), OUIGO and INTERCITÉS

posted and available for booking are guaranteed to circulate .
