Rocamadour: Too crowded at Easter? Driving time from Brive?

Dear Forum

Had fabulous twin centre in Les Eyzies/Sarlat last year before Easter - the forum's advice on caves was very useful.

.

This year, we are hoping to return to France to stay at Rocamadour and near St Cirq Lapopie, but unless we can juggle work commitments, looks like we may have to be there Easter.

My questions are:

1. We know Rocamadour is tourist magnet and pilgrimage centre. Will it be unbearably crowded at Easter weekend? Will the Cite Religieuse be closed for services? And restaurants/surrounding attractions closed?

2. How long do you estimate it would take to drive from Brive airport to Rocamadour in the dark? if we go, we'd be staying at upper level towards L'Hospitat

Many thanks in advance for your views

There's no way I'd drive to Rocamadour in the dark -- not only are the roads primarily narrow, winding, and some hugging the sides of cliffs (not easy driving when you don't know where you're going, let alone the wrong side of the car and wrong side of the road -- but it would be a shame to deprive yourself of the glorious views.

Spend the night in Brive and drive down in the daylight.

Thank you - we hadn't realised it would that tricky, so now open to stopover. Looking at the map, we could see that approaching Rocamadour from the west (via D820 to Payrac, then going east on the D673) looked tricky. However, we had planned to approach Rocamadour from the east side (via the D840 then going west on D673) which looked pretty straightforward - presume same issues still apply?

Yes. It's a very small town in a very rural location.
