How to visit Mont St. Michel from La Havre ?

We have a cruise stop in La Havre and want to visit Mont St. Michel. There is not a ship excursion, so how would we do it on our own? Is it too far for a day trip?

it's about 2-1/2 hours each way by road (and no direct train) -- so too far for a day trip (especially since your day in Le Havre is only about 7-8 hours, IIRC)

I would not recommend going to MSM from Le Havre on this occasion - it is quite a long way away.

IF IF IF you really must, then suggest you hire a car and drive yourselves there - but if you miss your ship on the return - what will you do then??

Where else does this Cruise stop?? Perhaps there is a better 'port' for you to access the Mont.

The best port for Mont st Michel is St Malo, but ships that go to Le Havre don't normally go to St Malo.

If there's no ships excursion it's because of the new shuttle system coming in to force in April. It will add over an hour to the visiting time. For a bus the travelling time is 2.5 hoursx2, time for lunch, 2 hours minimum to visit, plus shuttle time ~ 9.5 hours.
