Direct train connection to trier

Hi,

Does anyone know from which cities are direct train connections to trier other than Koblenz? I'm looking for a combination of flight and train from Vienna to trier but don't want to change train two times.

I must add search for options from Luxemburg were useless since the busses have very limited working hours.

I'd appreciate ideas.

Thanks

Flying to Cologne would be an option.

The 10:50 and 14:50 departures from Vienna have only one change of train... in Koblenz. That's as good as it gets.

There are direct trains from Cologne to Trier, but you would have to get from the airport to the city center first. So one change.

The trains mentioned above are direct trains from Vienna to Koblenz and then one change to Trier. It takes a while of course.

Trier isn't exactly on any main train line and geographically kind of off the beaten track so it's not gonna get much better.

"From Vienna to where?"

You said you were going from VIENNA to TRIER. So that's what I searched... Vienna's main station to TRIER's main station, which can be done with one change of train in Koblenz at those hours (10:50 and 14:50.)

If you can't find a 1-change connection at those times, perhaps there is something unusual about conditions on your particular travel date.

If you can't travel from Vienna at those hours, then you'll have 2 changes.

If you are not starting your train journey from Vienna, but from Vienna AIRPORT by train, then you are adding an additional travel leg and will indeed have at least 2 changes.

It is a VERY long journey to make if indeed you are landing after a long flight at Vienna Airport and immediately trying to get to Trier. If that's the case... Why don't you travel part of the way after landing - maybe Salzburg or Munich - get rested and freshened up, then depart the next morning for a shorter journey to Trier?

Well, thank you all guys but the truth is I live in Vienna and tried to make a combination of one direct flight from Vienna to a citiy in Germany (like Köln or Frankfurt) and hopefully find a direct connection from that point of landing to Trier but it seems the longest with only one change is the whole way by train and the shortest is VIE to FRA by plane and a train ride from there to Trier with at least 2x changes :(.

Thanks for all your suggestions.

Flying to Luxembourg Airport (LUX) or Hahn Airport (HHN) and direct bus from there might be an option as well.

There are also connections with just one change of trains from Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN) or Frankfurt International Airport to Trier.

Apart from the occasional 117 bus and the usually more expensive Flibco connection, there are frequent bus connections between Luxemburg and Trier on bus no. 118 - but it involves a quick change: First you take the Eurobus 16 to Kirchberg John F. Kennedy (every 10 minutes during working days), cross the road and then catch the 118 to Trier. On the way to Trier, you cannot buy a ticket all the way to Trier but first have to buy a local ticket for the 16 and then a one-way ticket to Trier (5€). On the way back to the airport, you can use the ticket you bought on the 118 all the way to the airport.

The 118 timetable is available here: https:/…rgtr-118_chantier-trier.pdf

Notice that the change marked in red is no longer relevant - the stop "Nordallee" is functional again and the bus does *not* leave from the main railway station.

There are direct flights from Vienna to Luxembourg and hourly trains from Trier to Luxembourg; check www.cfl.lu From airport it is a short bus ride to train station (better use bus no 29, than 16). On working days there are also very frequent buses (118 is frequent; take bus 16 to Auchan, cross the street and wait for 118 to Trier). Or there are some direct 117 buses from airport to Trier. https:/…trier-findel-luxembourg-117-16.html (airport stop is called Luxembourg Findel, that's right in front of the airport).

Buses are scarce on weekends and holidays as they are mainly used by commuters who come from Trier and its surrounding to work in Luxembourg). In weekends and holidays it is better to use the train.
