Parking before crossing border to Gibraltar?

I'm planning on driving from Torremolinos to Gibraltar on a Saturday morning. Everyone seems to recommend not crossing the border with the car and rather parking and crossing border.

1) Where should I be parking (does someone have a address I can put into the GPS)?

2) How much will parking be?

3) What do I do after I park, how do I get to Gibraltar? Should I take a cab to border?

4) How do I get back from Gibraltar?

5) Once I'm in Gibraltar, should I take the cable car up to the top?

Well, let's look at this.

1) Focona carpark is the nearest,

2) At a guess, about €2 per hour. Just a guess, mind!

3) Walk. To get a taxi, you would have to walk to the taxi rank, which is at the frontier. :-) It's about 45 seconds.

4) You walk

5) Yes, if it's a clear day. No if it isn't.

Best wishes

Santa Barbara parking on the seafront.

You walk to & across the border - see the map.

If you don't want secure parking you can park in the blue pay zones on the roads around this area.

Free parking is a bit further away - along Av. Príncipe de Asturias towards the football club.

Take the cable car if you fancy it.

You can get the no 5 bus from the border to market square (for casemates) & walk up main street to the cable car, or take the no 10 to Boyd Street (Trafalgar cemetery) & it is just a short walk to the cable car.

Thank you for the information it is very helpful.

One follow-up question, what is the best time to go to Gibraltar from Torremolinos to avoid lineups at the border?

On foot?

Never any problem.

There are people pouring in to get to work at 8.50, but it all moves pretty fast.

N.B. you will need a valid passport or a EU I.D. document.

Best wishes

The cable car £13.00 only really takes you to Apes Den. Take the Taxi tour for £20 (ish) it includes Europa Point, St Michaels Caves, Siege tunnels, Apes Den and you get to learn a little bit of local stuff from the driver generally. Tour anywhere between 90 mins to 2 hours.

It cost 8 euros to park virtually opposite the border in March, just on the on street parking zones, this was a 6 hour park, its in hourly segments. Took 90 minutes from Torremolinos doing the coastal scenic route, avoiding toll roads.

Not sure a week end is a good day to travel, its always far busier on the road as all the locals on the move.

There are very good bus services to take you round the island, you can get a days bus pass for 3.30 or 2.00 for oap.
