Advanced Ticket Purchase

Hi all - would appreciate your thoughts. We will be arriving in Barcelona the morning of July 8 and will be staying for 3 nights. The sites we don't want to miss are Sagrada Familia, Picasso Museum, La Pedrera, Park Guell, Palace of Catalan Music and Palau Guell. Of course, we will be exploring on foot, as well. On all of our journeys, we always purchase tickets ahead of time to avoid long ticket lines. Regarding the above sites, are there any that you recommend we purchase online more than several days in advance to avoid the possibility that the online tickets sell out during the days we will be in Barcelona? I'm uncertain as to whether any of these sites actually "sell out" via online purchase or if there is always the ability to purchase for a particular timeslot on any given day. For our later trip to the Alhambra, it was made clear to us that the tickets actually do sell out, and usually months in advance, so we already bought those.

I already bounced this question off of TA Barcelona advisor Enric, who was very helpful but thought I'd get a few more thoughts from you all.

Thanks.

pauljay, the general advice here is to pre-book Sagrada Familia, the Picasso Museum, Park Guell, and the Palau de la Musica. It may also make sense to pre-book Casa Batllo.

My view is that, in general you do not need to book that far in advance. I have address the timing issues involving pre-booking in several threads. Take a look at posts 7 and 11 in this thread: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g18749…

Then follow the link in post 7 to an earlier thread and check out posts 7 and 15 in the linked thread. That should give you additional information about timing. In general, my advice is to monitor the official websites and to buy either when times you are interested in start to sell out, or when you have your plans locked in (recognizing that things can change once you arrive and learn as you are going). Note that the most time-sensitive site is Sagrada Familia, but only if you want to visit a tower or take a guided tour. Visits with the audioguide and without a tower are generally available a few days in advance, so you should have flexibility (as long as you have Internet access in Barcelona to buy online when you are there).

Apart from Sagrada Familia, where it can happen in July, sites won't "run out" of tickets but you'll have less available time slots to choose from. A quick look on the Sagrada Familia website shows that today, still not as busy as July, there are only 7 slots in the afternoon for a regular visit but If you want to visit one of the towers you'll only find a few available slots on Sunday.

If you want, or have to - like in Palau de la Música, take a guided tour than you should always pre book as there are less available slots and

On other sites you'll probably find more available slots on the same day but not all slots will be available, which might require you to change your plans.

In any case, I suggest to try and buy tickets in advance when possible as, apart from saving the need to queue for ticket many places charge extra at the ticket office or give a discount online - which is basically the same (this includes, Sagrada Familia, Casa Batlló Casa Milà, Park Guell, Camp Nou, HoHo bus, Montjuic cable car, Poble Espanyol, Barcelona Zoo (last four offers a discount online). There could be more so always check. Also check discounts as you might be eligible for one (youth, student, disabled, senior) - in this case remember to bring an official card to verify the discount.
