There is a great Israeli restaurant in the Ghetto in Canareggio, Gam Gam. There are also Chinese restaurants in San Polo and Canareggio. I do not know if they are any good. And I understand there is an Indian restaurant. Google for them.
Real ale in the sense that we English people mean by the term is almost impossible to find in Venice. In an Irish bar you might find Guinness, but otherwise its all various lagers under different names. I stick to wine in Italy, since the beer is fairly gassy and samey. Sometimes you can find a German wheat beer, but that's about as good as it gets. Expect around €8 for a half litre.
thanks for the feedback, Guinness or Peroni it is.
Two restaurants come immediately to mind:
Osteria La Zucca, Callie del Tintoretto, Santa Croce (San Stae vaporetto stop) This highly popular restaurant offers a good range of meat and pasta dishes and vegan options; all creatively prepared with locally sourced fresh ingredients. Reservations mandatory; even at lunch. +39 041 5251570
Ristorante Frary’s : Fondamenta dei Frari (San Toma vaporetto stop) +39 041 7200050.
Excellent and authentic Greek and Middle Eastern
cuisine; right across from the Do-Not-Miss Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari! (Do not confuse with a coffee/panini shop; after crossing the bridge from the church, walk a little bit further down on your left.)Edited: 08 June 2018, 22:11
