Hotel help - Venice - 2 nights

Hi there. This is my first trip to Venice. I am booking a hotel for 2 nights. We would arrive Saturday afternoon and leave Monday. And basically try to jam everything touristy in that time in Venice.

Someone mentioned I should stay in St Marks square. I am trying to find a hotel for 200-300 usd a night, which hotels / area do you recommend pls for quint essential Venice experience?

Thanks!!

The Kette hotel is very close to St Marks Square and much more reasonably priced than others in this very expensive area. Price is very dependant on what time of the year you are visiting.

Just spent 3 nights at the Palazetto Madonna, great hotel, can walk to most of the major sites, although the vaporetto is much quicker. Tbis hotel is on a quiet canal but not far from all the action.

You need to think in terms of euro, not $$ Then you can put your requirements into booking.com and see what is available which suits you. St. Marco is fine. Close enough for visiting the sites. Hotel Kette is fine, so is Hotel Flora, Hotel Violino d’Oro, Hotel Ala. These should be enough for you to choose from also.

Thank you for all the help. This was helpful!! we have narrowed down to:

1 Duodo Palace

2 L'orologio Venezia - not in st marks sq but seems to be close enough?

3 NH collectopm

4 Bel Sito

5 Rialto

All the hotels except 2 are in Marco sq. 2 has great reviews, same pricing and seems to be close enough. We would be spending most of our time sightseeing - looking for a clean nice hotel. These seem to be between 250-350 which seems to be standard for the area.

Can someone please help pick between these or highlight pros/cons? Or if you think there is another hotel we must check out similar - then pls mention. thanks

thanks.

We will soon be returning to Il Duca de Venezia in the San Croce area. We have loved it as have froends we sent there. Just off the Grand Canal but quieter in the evening and the nearby local piazzas have good restaurants without San Marco prices.

Venice is so compact anywhere is an easy walk back to anywhere.

Its a question of which areas have inflated prices, lots of noise, crowds, and only tourists and which are more reasonable, relaxing and surrounded by the small canals, rios and bridges that make Venice really special.

Honestly -- You couldn't pay me to stay in the St. Marks area for the "quintessential Venice experience." If you buy tickets in advance, you can cover the St., Marks attractions in half a day. A real quintessential Venice experience means walking the neighborhoods where Venetians eat, drink, and live, exploring, getting lost, and discovering all the wonderful things that the guidebooks overlook . Venice is so compact and easily walkable that there is really no reason to stay in the St. Marks area, which is one the most touristy of touristy places in all of Italy, unless you looking for a quintessential tourist experience.

Personally, I wouldn’t stay in St. Marks proper. It’s way too touristy and crowded. We stayed closer to the Piazzale Roma, where we were able to walk to our hotel by crossing only 1 bridge and upon leaving, we crossed that bridge back to P. Roma to catch an express bus back to the airport. We used the vaparettos to get to/from anywhere we needed to go and didn’t have to fight the crowds if we wanted to avoid them.
