Train to Venice

We are staying in Gorizia on a vacation around Central Europe. We will be arriving there from Zagreb Croatia. Google maps states that it is about 90 min to drive to Venice from there. That would be a great day trip. Are there other reasonable options to get to Venice, or is just driving the best way.

Thank you

There are trains from Gorizia Centrale to Venezia S. Lucia http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en

But you might find it faster to drive to Monfalcone and take one of the 1h 45 trains from there.

https://www.viamichelin.com reckons it's a two hour drive from Gorizia. If you drive you'll pay around €20 in tolls there and back, and parking in Piazzale Roma in Venice costs €26 a day if there's a place still available when you arrive. There are other less convenient parkings which would have places.

All train times for September (and to December) are already available on the link provided. Insert an early hour (e.g. 05) in the box after the date to see the earliest trains. If you do not insert an hour, the website shows trains starting from the clock time on your computer.

Thank you. I have researched the site and can see the times. Should I be purchasing now, or the day I want to travel.

There are no advance reductions on Regional trains, and no reserved seats so they cannot sell out.

Buy in advance a day or two beforehand only if you want to save a couple of minutes buying at a ticket machine and then looking for the validation machine to validate (time-stamp) your ticket before boarding. Online tickets do not require validation.
