Breakfast in Venice

Hello,

I will travelling to Venice in 6 weeks'. Our inbound flight arrives late at night so no time for food, straight to bed. Can anyone recommend a nice canal side restaurant that serves breakfast approx 8:30/9am?

Thank you.

The terrace restaurant at Hotel Bonvecchiati comes to mind as it serves breakfast for non guests (buffet style, I think from €11-12 per person), and has one side along a canal.

Kind of depends where you are staying. If you are near the San Marco district Rosa Salva might be worth a try, not exactly canalside but pretty wonderful nonetheless. You won't get a UK style breakfast, but just keep ordering cappuccino and work your way along the pastry collection. https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Rev… If you are in Dorsoduro, you get a nice pastry and coffee at el chioschetto on the Zattere with unbeatable view over to the giudecca. reviewed here https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Rev…

Canneregio the Parliament bar https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Rev… between the tre arche and guglie bridges is nice. Speaking personally, I would rather try a bar for that authentic Venice-y feel rather than head to a hotel for their offerings. Also these choices are based on my definite requirement of a decent coffee!!

Italian style - most bars/cafes open at that time serve excellent coffee and a range of snacks. I particularly favour Da Gino in Calle Nuovo San Agnese in Dorsoduro. It is on the route between the Accademiia and the Peggy Guggenheim.

I don't know when you were last. in Gino 's Robert-J, but it has changed beyond all recognition in the last year or so. It was always my favourite for breakfast or an early Spritz, but it is now almost unrecognisable as the old Gino's - the coffee is not as good and the laminated photograph menu has appeared... All the locals have deserted it and now hang out either at the poggi for a standup espresso or inside the Laguna on the Zattere
