We are thinking of visiting in February but wondered if many places will be closed? We want to stay in the centre and any recommendations would be welcome. It will need to have heating!

Should we wait and come in May?!

Thanks

Julie

February will be very quiet, but things will be open. Some restaurants and smaller B&Bs etc. may have their annual closer at this time, but more than enough will be open.

Temperature should be in the mid-teens and there is a good chance you will get some rain. May will be in the low to mid 20s.

What type/standard of accommodation are you looking for. There is only one hotel in the historic centre (the San Francesco) but there are also B&Bs and flats to rent. Most if not all will have heating. There are also quite a few hotel options surrounding the historic centre.

Sardinia is a very large island inhabited by 1,680,000 people, it's not just a summer holiday destination. Alghero is a town with 44,000 inhabitants and has a university campus with thousands of students from around the world, all services available in summer are available in winter too, obviously some few restaurants and bars located close to the beaches can be closed. It is positive because the town will not be chaotic and crowded as in summer. The average daily temperature in Alghero is 9.8°C (49.6 F) and 8 days of rain occurs in february on average.

February is the period of Carnival, there are various events in Alghero, but i advice to visit the sardinian inland in that period where ancient pagan carnival masks and ancient rituals are performed.

Hello! I am going there at the end of March but I just saw that The Alghero Beach Bus works only during the summer... do you know which other public transport way I can use in order to go to the beaches / to Capo Caccia? Thank you!

You won't be going to the beaches in March. Much too cold. There was snow in the north of Sardinia last week!

There are buses and boats to Capo Caccia in March.
