grocery shopping on Saturday night/Sunday morning?

Hi everyone,

We are getting into our rental house (in San Martino en Freddana) later on Saturday June 30. Are there any grocery stores likely to be open either after 5pm or Sunday morning? Hungry kids and a caffeine deprived mother are not a good combination!

Thanks in advance-

Shops inside Lucca generally do not shut until 19:30 0r 20:00 Monday thru Saturday. The supermarkets, Esselunga is the highest quality around, are also open until 21:00 these days. In via Santa Croce my local butcher who sells fruit and veg as well as prepared veg is often open until at least 20:30 on Saturday evening. Sundays inside the walls some deli's open and some of the supermarkets as well, you would need to check a few websites for those as they change around whats open/when.

The folks from whom you are renting may provide a service ( for a few Euros) that will stock your kitchen with a few basics that will get through the rough patch....just as insurance.
