Currency versus credit card in the Oberland

Staying in Grindelwald in June. When we were there several years ago credit cards were not accepted at many of the mountain huts which we would call in for lunch on our walks. Does anyone know if this is still the case. Also if anyone has any recommendations for places to lunch in the mountains that would be great. We purchased the 6 day Jungfrau Travel pass which will be great for getting around. Thanks

I would suggest using your credit card to obtain cash from any of the numerous ATM s in the village before you go hiking so you dont have to worry about whether the huts take credit cards or not.

A couple of my favorite spots for mountain lunches are the Faulhorn hotel above First and the Obersteinberg mountain hotel above stechelberg in the Lauterbrunnen valley.

A lot of huts do take credit cards now, but some don't...

Once you know which huts you will be going to, the Swiss Alpine Club's website will tell you whether or not they accept payment by card: www.sac-cas.ch/en/huts/search-a-hut.html
