Suggestions for a quick lunch or snack

Next week I m in Amsterdam with a friend , and as we ar going there by a bus tour we have only a very limited time. After a canal cruise we will walk around the main streets, just to get a glimpse of this city (my friend). So we don´t have the time for an extended lunch menu and it´s not enough time to go to my favourite places in Jordaan and elsewhere.

Febo wouldn´t be an option, because we like to eat while sitting:-).

Do you know just by fortune any cafe or snack bar or something like this in the center, maybe a hot tip, within walking distance to the Centraal?

I dally over "De Jaren" but I suppose that my friend would prefer more typical Dutch snacks or (fast)food like bitterballen, frikandeln & co.

Any advice or hot tip will be appreciated, because I have already experienced some very poor tourist traps...

My husband really liked De Jaren and they have 2 lovely balconies overlooking a canal - that is very Dutch (-:

Or you can go to Pancake Upstairs that is also in that area for some Dutch Pancakes.

The ground floor café in De Bijenkorf at Dam Square is a great, central spot for meeting up.

Their food, while not typically Dutch, is very good and the ambience is nice as well.

Thank you all for your suggestions.

I would have liked to try Hap-Hmm but it doesn´t open before 4:30 pm, too late for lunch. And beside this it´s a bit too far outside for us.

So I will just wait and see how the weather is like, and perhaps choose a cafe with outdoor seating area, EG De Jaren. I have been there a year ago and liked it, although I couldn´t sit at the terrace.

And then on our way back to the Centraal we can get some food from Febo, if my friend is longing for it. Alternative to a visit at De Drie Graefjes or at Winkel or Zeezicht, for appletarte or cake, we are Germans, lol.

BTW, Winkel could be an option for lunch too, couldn´t it?

Our handicap is the lack of time...

How far from Centraal is too far?

Café van Zuylen and a couple other terraces on the Singel

De Vergulde Gaper and several other terraces right around Prinsenstraat and Prinsengracht

Yes on the terrace at Winkel or Finch also on the Noordermarkt.

There's always 't Smalle or any number of terrace cafes along the Prinsengracht.

You may sense a pattern there. I love grabbing an open table when the mood strikes me.

Enjoy,

chuck

Van Dobben is the place to go! They have great kroketten and traditional dutch sandwiches and the place is a piece of Amsterdam's cultural and culinary history. Conveniently located off of Rembrandt Sq. Look for me if you're there on a Friday around 3 - 4 PM. Its my weekly late Friday lunch spot

@Pala32: I will google your first two suggestions, the other ones are known to me.

I have checked Van Dobben, and I think it might fit for her, not sure. I will say "hi" if I notice you, lennybruce, hopefully it won´t be another guy:-).

You know, I would like to plan this day carefully, because I want that everybody likes this city:-) But it´s somewhat tricky because my "friend" just want to see "the city", without any preferences and no real knowledge about, and we have only about 5 - 6 h after the boat trip. How far from Centraal? It depends on which time we will eat... and that depends when she will be hungry. I have to play the Amsterdam tourist guide now for some friends. But there might be worser tasks, LOL.

And in some weeks I will go there again on my own and then I can go, do, and eat what and when I like it:-)!
