Keukenhof closes on May 13, so it’s not open in July. The reason the Keukenhof closes is that tulips are spring flowers, so there won’t be flowers to see in summer.

The Discover Holland pass might work for the Amsterdam-trip. € 24 for a return ticket and admission to a Canal Cruise sounds like a good deal. You'll have more than enough time to explore the rest of Amsterdam as well. https:/…Amsterdam-Canal-Cruise

You can do Kinderdijk very easily from Rotterdam. Take the Waterbus from the centre of Rotterdam directly to Kinderdijk. http://www.waterbus.nl/kinderdijk-en/

Rotterdam's North Sea Jazz Festival takes place on the 2nd weekend in July; many hotels increase their prices for these three nights . A three day RET (Rotterdam ) transport pass(Metro, trams and buses) is available at the tourist kiosk at the Centrum Railway Station Hall; this includes ticket discounts at various local museums etc..

Long train + bus journey, therefore I wouldn't recommend it with kids. A car would make the trip easier but then there are so many other interesting places to see much closer by.

<Long train + bus journey>

about two and a half hours by public transport from Rotterdam Central station (a two hour train ride from Rotterdam to Steenwijk with a change in Zwolle and a 15 minute bus ride to Giethoorn)

Giethoorn is a minimum of 2h35 minutes from the moment the train departs from R'dam station. So probably more like a six hour round trip to spend 3~4 hours in Giethoorn. I certainly wouldn't do it when I had only 3 days in the Netherlands.

What age are your kids? Madurodam is a popular trip with kids in that region, you can combine it with Delft and/or Scheveningen. Depends a bit on your interests as well.
