trains from Amsterdam to Ieper

We are a group of 4 who will be travelling from Amsterdam to Ieper in October and spending 3 days in Ieper. Any suggestions as to train connections, hotel/B&B, tour guides would be appreciated. We especially want to tour the battlefields of Flanders and Vimy.

You can either go by high-speed Thalys as far as Brussels (2 hrs), then direct train to Ieper (1h55) or a series of non-high-speed (InterCity) trains, changing in Mechelen and Kortrijk, taking about 4 1/2 hrs. For times and prices see http://www.b-europe.com/Travel

There are now tours to Vimy from Ieper, see www.salienttours.be/ - or if you just want to get there under your own steam, you would take a train to Lille-Flandres and then to Arras, from where I think (you may have to ask in the forum for France/Lille/Arras) there is a bus to Vimy Ridge.

If you look under Ieper Hotels on the left of this page you will find recommendations already given by TA members.
