Walking in Ponta Delgada

Hi, I will be in Ponta Delgada for 3 full days only , June -17-19.

I want to take tours for 2 days and spend one day just wandering around town, see churches, museums, people , etc.

Which day is better ( Sunday,Monday or Tuesday) to spend in Ponta Delgada?

Thank you very much!

Hi. It seems all of the shops are closed on Sunday in Ponta Delgada. I’m not sure of the museums and churches.

I have no particular experiences from Ponta Delgada in this regard but museums are traditionally closed on Mondays across Europe.

On Sunday church services are held and obviously sightseeing during the services would be disrespectful and inconvenience worshippers. Most probably you would be able to enter and visit between the services.

I just returned from Sao Miguel and toured Ponta Delgada on a Sunday. I found it to be a great day to explore!

There is no "best" day. It simply depends upon what you want to do.

We were just in Ponta Delgada for a few days last month, including on April 25, a national holiday. Sunday is a quieter day with less traffic, so it is a good day to walk around, see the city and people watch. It will not be so good if places that you want to enter are closed. You will have no trouble, however, finding places to eat.

Any day is a good day for walking around Ponta Delgada. Keep in mind that most everything, including a lot of the restaurants will be closed on Sunday. enJoy!
