Decided to leave Sitia a day early and took the small Kasos Princess for the 3 hour journey
The boat was almost empty but what a rough crossing - made the sea jets seem stable
Would probably get the Prevelis next time even though it only runs from Sitia twice a week (once a week later in the season)
Arrived on Kasos and given a lift the 200 metres to our home for 5 days at Blue Sky - the dark wood fittings hark back to the ‘70s but it is the largest apartment we have had for quite a while, spotlessly clean and Stavroula is a charming host - WiFi not very good so if that’s important you may want to look elsewhere
Fry the main town is very pretty especially around the fishing harbour and traditionally Greek - if you have only been to touristy islands it will come as a shock when everything closes in the afternoon
The main question we have been asked on the island is how and why did you come to Kasos
From a personal perspective I like to visit less touristy spots and places people at home will never have heard of. Kasos scores highly on both measures - expect in late July/early August when its overrun with Greek/Americans
If you enjoy walking it is easy to visit most of the small villages around Fry - although not being a seasoned walker my calf muscles have been complaining about some of the hills - there is also a bus service Monday to Friday but the last bus runs at 2:30
There aren’t many sights as such but the fishing harbour at Bouka is very picturesque with a handful of tavernas and cafes to while away the time
If you want to reach the better beaches you will need to hire a car or bike - not really a beachy person so we didn’t but there is a hire place in town
Majority of people very friendly and food in all places we have tried has been very good - from the fish restaurants to the simple pizza place
All in all a very enjoyable few days in an unspoiled part of Greece
After only a few days I would put it towards the top of my list of Greek islands and definitely on the must return list
