Foot ferry passengers to Ithaca

We are visiting Kefalonia in August and thinking about driving to Sami and travelling to Ithaca as a foot passenger. Do you think we'd be able to purchase a ticket without booking or is booking imperative?

Hi Susan and welcome,

Never seen the ferry so full that foot passengers were turned away.

New this year is a bus service to help visitors to Ithaca from Kefalonia. On this website in the Sami sector click on Ithaca to see the timetable.

As you have a car, if you check with the rental company you could take the car with you and explore more of the island. You might then need to book tickets for August.

Have a great holiday.

Thanks Bob. Ideally we'd like to take the car and stay over night so that we can explore at our leisure. However, there's a lot to consider - car hire and whether taking car to Ithaca is permitted, ferry booking, hotel booking. Just trying to decide what best to do and when.

Hi again,

Most companies are happy for you to take the car to Ithaca providing you ask first. You would only need to book the ferry the day before. For hotel you would just have to turn up and hope. There is a tourist info place in Vathi.
