Kassandra or Sithonia?

Hi,

I need recommendation for 5 day stay in Halkidiki, I am looking for a good beach with less crowd, close to the town center for the nights (5-10 min. car drive is ok ).

I have some towns in my mind but dont know which one is better for me.

Pefkohori and Polychrono in Kassandra, Nikiti and Neos Marmaras in Sithonia.

Could please help me about comparing them according to beauty of beaches and crowd.

I have been to both Kassandra and Sithonia but went in early season so don't know about how busy August will be. Sithonia was quiet when we were and we couldn't believe the lovely beaches. I don't think you will go far wrong with Nikiti or Neos Marmaras. I am going to let Giannis advise you as he is local and will tell you which one is best for you. He will see this as he answered someone 's question last week.

Everywhere gets busy in August, it’s peak season, but sithonia will definitely be quieter than Kassandra.

Nikiti is a nice resort but I don’t think the sea is as nice there, Neos Marmaras is lovely.

My favourite village is Pefkohori (Kassandra peninsula) but it will be very busy at that time…

Hi there "Onur".

End of August will be busy indeed both in Kassandra and in Sithonia. Now, regarding Sithonia that I can advise you for sure, there is a really long coastline that will definitely not be busy anywhere. So, even in August there are places you can relax with not big crowds. If you don't mind a short drive, except from Neos Marmaras, I would also advise you to check on Parthenonas, which is a small traditional village/settlement, just 5km away from Neos Marmaras , overlooking the sea and offering less busy days, and definitely cooler nights. There are a few nice B&B's to be found there, as well as a couple of restaurants, two cafes and generally a relaxed atmosphere. Around Neos Marmars, you will also find lots of different solutions regarding accommodation, I would mostly advise you to check the surrounding of Neos Marmaras, instead of the town center. Having your base in the area, you could easily approach other nice resorts as well (including Nikiti, Porto Koufo, Toroni, Vourvourou), you could have access both from Neos Marmaras and Ormos Panagias to beautiful boat trips, and also be close to other activities such as wine tasting, trekking, mountain cycling, scuba diving etc.

In case you need any further help, please don't hesitate.

Regards,

Giannis

Thank you all for the replies.

It looks the pefkohori has more beautiful beach but more crowded place. Surrounding beaches is plus for Neos Marmaras area.

I have 3 months old baby and it is better for me to be next to the beach. I plan to visit other beaches but i don't know if it is possible with 1 year old baby. So nearby beach should be above average and easily accessible from the hotel.

I am searching southern part of Neos Marmaras but can not find much solution.

Which part/area southern of Neos Marmaras did you check, if you don't mind letting me know? You mean another village/resort or just the area at the southern part of Neos Marmaras?

Also, what type of accommodation are you looking for?

I checked the area between the Neos Marmaras and Kohi beach and also surrounding villages. Actually the north part of the Neos Marmaras (Paradisos) has some alternatives but i suspect it has more beautiful beach. Other alternatives in small villages close to the Neos Marmaras is ok for me as long as they have decent beach and basic needs such as markets and tavernas.

I prefer apartment or family room with kitchen.

Plenty of choice on Paradisos. Yes, town beach in Neos Marmaras is definitely more beautiful, but Paradisos is very convenient, too. Plenty of accommodation options, a couple of nice tavernas and cafes, and - very quiet. Take a look at hotel Areti, Botanica, Miramare...

Yes, I agree with "Greekface2" above , with these names of the hotels, as well as with the fact of the nice tavernas-cafes in the area of Paradeisos. The beach is not as wide as the main beach of Neos Marmaras, but it is indeed convenient. On the other (south) side of Neos Marmaras, there are also many small hotels, B&B's such as Kastro which is situated right on the water. I know it because I usually have a coffee with my family at its beach bar or somewhere around there. There is a lot of accommodation around this area as well, if you give a look at a google or booking.com map, which I am sure you will find atrractive.
