Can casual exchanges like this be done with a Visa credit card as I was planning to avoid carrying cash if possible? Also what is the standard amount?

Note- will be crossposting this same or similar question regarding the other countries on my vacation in their respective forums.

Too much emphasis is placed on carrying no cash or limited cash.

I'm never sure why?

In my book, cash is king.

Get some cash at the ATM at the airport on arrival and use it for sundries.

Anything left over can be used to buy gifts/food/charity at the airport. That way you won't have to be worried about left over ISK.

I used left over ISK to get fuel.

You can not tip with a credit card.

And if there is any leftover Isk. Go to the airport bank, and have it transferred onto your Credit card. Easy and no hassle.

To each his/her own for sure. I rarely use cash at home anymore, and when I travel I hope to use none at all. To me it's much more convenient to simply carry a card or two instead of cash, not to mention racking up points on my travel card. The fact that Iceland is nearly a cash-free economy suggests that's the logical path for the visitor as well

We tipped on a credit card. Had a private tour in winter and when it came time to pay we asked if we could add a tip to the credit card slip and were told that was fine.
