Road help

Just finalizing our route now for our July trip. We won't be renting a 4x4 as we have no intention of driving f roads or doing and off-roading.

I just want to make double and triple sure so we don't plan a route we shouldn't be driving on.

The f roads are all roads marked with an "f" before the number, and all other roads that are just a number should be okay to drive without a 4x4?

Here you can see which roads are paved and which roads are gravel:

All F-roads require a 4x4, but some Highland roads that are no longer F-roads may legally require one as well (e.g. Kjalvegur 35 or Kaldadalsvegur 550). Your rental car provider will have that information for you. There may also be some rough gravel routes that will be safer to drive in a car with higher ground clearance.

Off-roading is always illegal, no matter what car you rent.
