Opera recommendations and advice

Hi,

These are the two operas running during my visit.

Any advice or recommendations to help decide?

Giuseppe Verdi

FALSTAFF

Carl Maria von Weber

DER FREISCHÜTZ

Thanks.

Khushnuma

Unfortunately, I don't know Der Freischütz (yet), but Falstaff is not exactly Verdi's most popular opera. Der Freischütz had its' premiere only yesterday, so reviews will come out soon. I suspect Der Freischütz might be easier if you're not into opera yet. Both are rather unlikely to sell out very quickly (at least the more expensive categories), but that depends on your exact dates.

Thanks Richard. If reviews do come out I'd appreciate it if you could let me know.

There's only show of Der Freischütz on the dates I'm there and only the expensive ones are available

Right, Mozart's Magic Flute is a very popular work and Strauss' Die Fledermaus (the bat) a most Viennese, funny operetta with many great tunes!

According to the reviews I have read so far, the Freischütz production is rather controversial and not reflecting the setting the composer had in mind. The Falstaff production, on the other side, is very nice and rather classical.

As to Lohengrin vs Tosca, it's Tosca without any doubt for someone who isn't already into opera. Also, the current Lohengrin production is quite strange while Tosca is a classic production running since 1958.
