Best walks and things to do in Llandudno

Hello, In June 2015 we will be visiting Northern Wales for 5-7 days and thought this village may be a good base for coastal and countryside walking, visiting historical buildings, villages etc. Really enjoy walking, anywhere up to 15 kms a day, easy to moderate walks and relying on public transport. Would appreciate any suggestions, also looking for self catering accommodation (budget ). Thanks

Llandudno is a town not a village. ;-)

Not too sure about walking in the area (apart from Llandudno not being too far from Mount Snowdon!) But you could take day trips by public transport to Conwy, Betws-y-Coed and, a bit further away, Caernarfon.

You can climb the Great Orme and come down by tram or cable car.

There's plenty of suggestions here - http://www.conwy.gov.uk/section.asp?cat=1504

About half a dozen of these take in the Great Orme which is a headland adjacent to the town of Llandudno so I'd suggest doing a few of these.

There's a nice walk that starts on Llandudno's west shore and follows the coast, past the golf courses into Deganwy which has lovely views over the estuary to Conwy and its castle. You can then follow the road round into Conway and walk around the town, along the castle walls and into the castle itself. There's also a 5-6 mile walk around the great orme itself which gives lovely views of the town and over to Ireland and the Isle of Man on a clear day. We like bird watching and with binoculars there's plenty of seabirds, birds of prey and the rare chough on the orme.

There's are various walkways up the middle of the great orme and half way up are the old copper mines which you can go down into and are quite interesting.

You can also walk along the North shore promenade, over the Little Orme and onto Penrhynn Bay which has a seal colony on its beach. You can catch a bus to the bay too.

There's reliable train service to Caernarthon which has a lovely castle, lots of shop and interesting cobbled streets.

Loom up the buses from Llandudno - Snowdon is only about 25 miles away. Betws Y Coed also on bus route as in Bangor for Anglesey. A walk around the base of the Great Orme is great. Even on the Orme itself as there is plenty of room for a walk.

You can get the train to Betws as well and onward to Ffestiniog. Loads of steam train routes.

The number 12 bus goes to Rhyl along the coast from Llandudno every few minutes.

A day in Llanberis also good with lots to do and good walks.

It only takes around 4 hours to walk up Snowdon (1000 metres ish).

Check out the bus and train times online.

Conwy castle worth a visit and close by.

Sure you will love it.

Go up to Conwy Mountain, there is a nice walk/hike with a few options. Up the top you have an amazing view of the North Wales Coast, Conwy and Snowdonia range.

Also, do go to Aber Falls which is a 10min drive from Conwy to Abergwyngregyn (Aber Falls). Park the car and take a nice 40min walk up to the Waterfalls. There is also a really nice hidden café in Aber which is good.

The other walk and good views is the Great Orme.
