Can anyone say if there is anything to do within a short walk from the hotel for photography. Only asking as Im arriving at the hotel early the day before a photography workshop and thought it might be nice to go fro a little wander?

A possibility: head S and SE onto Forest Road / Old Military Road. There's a signposted carpark and entrance to Anagach Woods http://www.anagachwoods.org.uk/ (and the back end of a golf course)

Something like 4 or 500 metres from the hotel.

There are a few woodland walks in the area and the river Spey is not much further (Speybridge)

The BWWC in the hotel have placed a bird feeder near the Curling Pond Car Park where you can photograph crested birds ( Trip Advisor don't allow use of the T*T word) and red squirrels. They will give you precise directions, just ask down in the club when you arrive.

There is also The Viewpoint Walk ( one of my favourite places!) up past the caravan park and along the old railway. You get great views from the short but steep walk to the top. I have seen crossbill, squirrel, stoat ( even one in ermine one time!) buzzard and roe deer

Your third option would be to go down Forest Road to General Wade's road to the River Spey and walk along to the Old Spey Bridge ( or drive to save time?) Lots of photo ops by the River. Again, get precise directions from the BWWC. You don't say what time of year you are visiting. Anagach Woods and the River Spey ( heron, dipper, merganser, swans, tern,) hide a lot of interesting wildlife, Capercaillie, Roe deer, Crested T**s, Crossbill and Pine Marten, though actually seeing some of them can be a bit of a lifetime achievement! The cresties are usually easy to see at that feeder though.

Enjoy your trip
