Geneva to Sainte Foy 27th December 2018

Hi

I wonder could anyone please comment on the advisability of driving from Geneva Airport to Sainte Foy on 27th December next and returning one week later? If we have snow is this likely to be a very difficult and long drive?

Thank you

Mary

Via Annecy and Albertville it is about 160 km. Obviously, if it is snowing hard at the time (in either direction) that 160 km will take you a long time and you will be wishing that you weren't so stupid as to try - but that is true of getting to/from ANY winter sports resort. However, big dumps of snow are actually quite a rare event (a few times a season, perhaps) and, otherwise, the roads will be kept reasonable clear (but possibly "degagées mais blanches"). I would hire the Swiss side of the airport so that you can leave Genêve by autoroute and, much more importantly, know that your car will have winter tyres. You would be wise to carry chains, hopefully you won't have to use them (except perhaps close to and in the resort) but it is better to have them than be forced to turn back en route.
